Typo takes German Tourist 13,000 km off course

OMG - this is a funny (yet somewhat sad) story at the same time. A 21 year old German tourist who wanted to visit his girlfriend in Sydney Australia ended up in Sidney, Montana after mistyping the name of the city on flight booking website. That little typo placed Tobi Gutt roughly 13,000 kilometers (8077 miles) from his original destination.

The poor kid was dressed for Sydney’s summer weather only to find the harsher conditions of Sidney’s winter weather. According to CNN, the airline ticket that Tobi Gutt purchased routed him through Portland, Oregon to Billings, Montana. It wasn’t until he was about to board a commuter plane to Sidney did he realize his mistake.. umm we’re not in Kansas anymore!!!

The poor kid spent three days in the Billings airport before he was able to purchase tickets to Australia with 600 euros in cash sent from his family and friends in Germany.

I suppose things could have been worse.. imagine wanting to go to Rome, Italy only to end up in Rome, NY? I’ve driven past Rome, NY several times in college and always wondered if anyone accidentally went to the city when they really wanted to go to Italy.

Recent reviews...

Man I’ve got to get better at updating my personal blog! I just wanted to update all of you on some of the recent articles that I’ve published over at Krunker.com.

The first three products have to do with integrating iPod controls into everyday wear

  • Kenpo Bonded Fleece Jacket for the iPod - Nice warm fleece jacket with integrated iPod controls on the arm sleeve.
  • Kenpo 3 in 1 Systems Jacket - Winter jacket made of two shells with integrated iPod controls on each shell
  • JanSport LiveWire+ Audio Pack - A standard backpack with integrated iPod controls

I’ve written a couple of Windows Vista related articles too. I would have like to have written more by now.. but I’ve been way too busy with things.

  • Guide to installing Windows Vista
  • Windows Media Center under Windows Vista

That’s it for now.. although I’m working feverishly to finish several other reviews before the end of the year (though I don’t think they will happen in time!)

20 Companies to Start NOW!

If you’re thinking about starting up a business but you’re not sure what exactly to start up, then check out this CNN/Business 2.0 article here about 20 business ideas that could land you funding right now if you can make them happen.

Each of these ideas come from some VC fund or major investor so clearly people are ready to invest. The question is - can you make it happen? Of course having an article like this out on the Net means - many people are going to try these ideas out - AND that’s the point isn’t it? So check the ideas out and see if you can do it. It certainly spurred some thought on my end!

How to improve memory performance under Firefox

Let me start things off by saying, I absolutely love Firefox. I use it day in and day out - both at work and at home. Having said that, Firefox is a real resource hog. It is. I hate putting my laptop to sleep with Firefox running because I know it’ll take me FOREVER to get my OS back when I turn the laptop back on.

Having said that, I’ve discovered several ways to improve memory performance under Firefox as described on this blog posting here. Keep in mind - Firefox’s memory performance is NOT due to leaks but rather how it decides to cache items in memory for better user performance.

Anyhow, without further ado, check out this page here if you want to optimize your browser experience even more so.
